Introduction to RRB Examinations
Indian Railways conducts large-scale recruitment drives for non-technical popular categories (NTPC), Group D track maintainers, technicians, and Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP). Understanding the multi-stage evaluation process is crucial for success.
Key Stages in RRB Recruitment
- First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-1): Screening test evaluating Mathematics, General Intelligence, General Science, and General Awareness.
- Second Stage CBT (CBT-2): In-depth testing tailored to post categories with higher negative marking penalty.
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Applicable for Group D positions, involving weight carrying and timed running tests.
- Document Verification & Medical Examination: Final stage checking original certificates and medical fitness standards (A-1, A-2, B-1, C-1 categories).
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Benchmarks
For Group D candidates, the PET is mandatory and qualifying in nature:
- Male Candidates: Lift and carry 35 kg weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes without putting down, AND run 1000 meters in 4 minutes 15 seconds in one chance.
- Female Candidates: Lift and carry 20 kg weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes without putting down, AND run 1000 meters in 5 minutes 40 seconds in one chance.
Important Advice for Indian Railways Aspirants
Pay close attention to visual standards (e.g., 6/6 vision for Loco Pilot posts). Always verify official employment news (Employment News / Rozgar Samachar) before submitting application forms.
